UK CV vs US resume - key differences
Called a CV, not a resume
In the UK, the document sent to employers is called a CV (curriculum vitae), regardless of length or profession. The term 'resume' is not commonly used.
Personal profile expected
UK CVs open with a personal profile - a short paragraph summarising experience, skills, and goals. This is standard; most UK recruiters expect it.
1–2 pages
UK CVs are 1–2 pages. Unlike US resumes (often one page strictly), two pages is acceptable and normal for experienced candidates.
No photo required
UK employment practice generally discourages photos to reduce screening bias. CVCompose makes the photo field optional.
References on request
Including referee details is not standard in UK CVs. 'References available on request' or omitting the section entirely is the norm.
ATS still applies
UK employers use ATS just as extensively as US ones. All CVCompose templates are single-column and ATS-safe.

Common UK CV mistakes to avoid
Using an objective instead of a personal profile
UK CVs open with a personal profile - a short paragraph about what you offer. US-style objective statements are not standard in UK applications and can read as out of place.
Including a photo
UK employers generally prefer CVs without photos to reduce screening bias. Unlike some markets, photos are not expected and may count against you.
Listing full referee details
'References available on request' is the UK standard. Upfront referee names, titles, and contact details are unnecessary and take up valuable space.
Applying a strict one-page limit
Two pages is perfectly acceptable for a UK CV, especially for experienced candidates. Unlike some US resume conventions, a one-page limit is not expected.
