What a UK CV looks like
Personal profile
A short paragraph at the top summarising your experience, skills, and career direction. UK employers expect this - it is the first thing a recruiter reads.
Reverse chronological order
Most recent role first, working backwards. Standard across UK sectors. CVCompose structures your experience section this way automatically.
1–2 pages
UK CVs typically run one page for early careers, two pages for experienced candidates. CVCompose templates are designed for this - clean, dense but readable.
No photo required
UK employment law does not require a photo and most UK employers prefer CVs without one to avoid unconscious bias in screening. CVCompose makes the photo field optional.
References on request
Including full referee details is not standard in UK CVs. A line stating 'References available on request' is the norm - or the section is omitted entirely.
ATS-safe layout
UK employers - especially large firms and recruiters - use ATS to filter applications. All CVCompose templates use single-column, table-free layouts that parse correctly.

Common UK CV mistakes to avoid
Including an objective statement
UK CVs open with a personal profile, not an objective statement. An objective tells employers what you want - a personal profile tells them what you offer. UK recruiters expect the latter.
Adding a photo
UK employers actively discourage photos to reduce unconscious bias during screening. Including one can work against you. CVCompose makes the photo field optional - the layout stays clean either way.
Listing full referee details upfront
Full contact details for referees are not standard in UK CVs. Write 'References available on request' or omit the section entirely. Share details only when specifically asked.
Treating two pages as too long
Unlike US resume conventions, a UK CV can run two pages without being seen as excessive. For candidates with several years of experience, two pages is expected and normal.
